Whether it’s through painting or performance there are lots of opportunities to express yourself during your time at Slough Grammar and that’s important.
You’re an individual, but sometimes, when you have to conform to being part of a class it doesn’t always seem that way. Because of that we’re keen to give you every chance to express yourself in a creative way. It’s important to put some of yourself into your work, your ideas and thoughts are valid and real and you should be able to express them to others in a number of ways.
You’ll have the chance to create performance and dance through drama classes and to communicate your feelings in a variety of artworks from painting and drawing, to sculpture and textiles. We have excellent facilities and great staff to help you really get to grips with getting your ideas into your work.
And, don’t be shy! Some people are well up for performing in front of others, but not everyone finds it easy. That’s okay, and if you do feel shy about expressing yourself you’re certainly not alone. Perhaps it helps to know that; you’re among others who feel the same as you, so why not show yourself and them, that self-expression is nothing to be afraid of, in fact, it’s a great way to build your self-confidence in a safe environment, among friends - go for it!
You’ll also have opportunities to appreciate the arts as well. You will have many chances to look at artworks and exhibitions, and attend performances throughout your time with us. Visual and expressive arts are an important part of our cultural life - tap into the arts and you’ll be connecting with a long history and tradition of sociable, human communication.
Remember, it isn’t just about learning. Art based activities are a serious part of your education, but it will never be dull, so get in amongst it, have a laugh, improve your confidence, believe in your ideas and express them in a creative way - it’s fun!
"The music department and the drama department often get together and at the moment they're making a musical called Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat. Its really good because everyone can get involved and play their part."
