Key Stages
Key Stages (Quick Guide)
The National Curriculum is divided into four Key Stages, each determines what should be taught to children within a particular age range.
In relation to secondary schools Key Stage 3 relates to children aged 11 – 13 and Key Stage 4 relates to children aged 14 – 16. |

The National Curriculum is divided into four Key Stages. Key Stages 3 and 4 relate to secondary schools. Key Stage 3 covers lower secondary school: children aged 11 – 13. Key Stage 4 covers upper secondary school; children aged 14 – 16.
Each Key Stage defines a range of subjects that must be taught to children within the age range of that Key Stage. At Slough Grammar School we work to the National Curriculum and we have added to that some subjects which we feel are essential for the rounded education of our pupils.
Scroll down the page to see tables listing the subjects taught for each Key Stage. The tables also show how many 60-minute lessons are taught fortnightly for each subject.
