Slough Grammar School
Sixth Form : Languages
Our Language College

More than half of the UK’s world trade is with European countries. This makes language skills vital for the country and for the pupils destined to become our future workforce. Recognising the potential and importance of language skills, Slough Grammar School sought and achieved Language College status.

This is good news for our pupils and our community. Language College status brings additional funding to the school, which strengthens our focus on teaching languages and developing deeper understanding of other cultures.

We have extended the range of languages taught and currently all students will learn at least two languages in Key Stages 3 and 4. We offer ten languages to the lower school and twelve to the Sixth Form. Currently we teach Far Eastern, Asian and European languages and intend to add Japanese in the near future. We have extensive resources including books, CD ROMs, DVDs, videos, LCD flat screen computers and interactive whiteboards. Pupils will work with specialist language teachers supported by Foreign Language Assistants. They will form real and virtual links with language students elsewhere in Slough and in a variety of other countries.

As a Language College, we now provide language support to local schools and businesses. We are passionate about promoting an international ethos and our work with our partners helps us in this. It also helps us to develop the skills and understanding needed to play a constructive part in our global future.

"At Slough Grammar School we are a Language College, we offer many different subjects, including all the classics such as Latin - which I personally enjoy."
