About our School : Feeder Schools
Feeder Schools

Mostly, the pupils of Slough Grammar School come from our local junior schools, known in educational jargon as ‘feeder schools’. We foster good relations with our feeder schools and do all we can to help prepare youngsters for the transition to secondary education. This can be a daunting time for Year 6 children and we work hard to dispel any misconceptions and fears they may have. We build on the positives and encourage them to look forward to joining a new school.

Staff visit feeder schools to talk about our school and, from January to July, junior children are invited to visit us and participate in a fantastic range of Primary Zone Taster Classes. These include: Italian, French, German, Spanish, Chinese and Latin language tasters; mask making; media studies in English; pattern making in maths; and a production game in business studies - it’s a fun packed series!

One of the key dates is the Induction day, usually held at the end of June. This is when new Year 7s get to meet their tutors and fellow students in a friendly and welcoming environment. They sample a typical school day and go home knowing that in September, they’ll have friends in their classes.

In addition to experiencing real secondary classes, Year 6 children are invited to events such as our open day, Chinese New Year celebrations and our International Day. By the time they’ve done all of that they have a very positive view on changing school!

Are we getting it right?

If you’re in one of our feeder schools and you think we could do more in smoothing the path from junior to secondary school we’d like to hear your ideas! Please contact us to share your thoughts.
